10 Middlesex Chambers of Commerce Attend NEMLEC Police Foundation Informational Event

“Multi-Chamber Networking Event” Held at Doubletree Bedford Glen Hotel with Business Leaders and Police Officials from 21 Middlesex Communities

BEDFORD — The NEMLEC Police Foundation, Inc. recently held an informational networking event between members of municipal law enforcement and local business leaders in Middlesex County.

The successful event, held Monday, April 7 at the Doubletree Bedford Glen Hotel, was meant to raise awareness about the work of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and non-profit NEMLEC Police Foundation Inc.. It featured food and conversation as well as addresses by several law enforcement leaders, including:

  • Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis, the President of NEMLEC and head of the NEMLEC Regional Response team and SWAT Team.
  • Watertown Police Chief Edward P. Deveau, who discussed the incredible municipal law enforcement response to the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects that ended in Watertown last April
  • Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian
  • Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan

For local editors, the following Chambers of Commerce attended: Bedford, Lexington, Woburn, Waltham, Medford, Reading, North reading, Newton, Malden, and Arlington. Police Chiefs and Officers from the following communities were present: Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Chelmsford, Concord, Dracut, Groton, Lexington, Maynard, Medford, Melrose, Newton, North Reading, Pepperell, Reading, Tyngsborough, Wakefield, Waltham, Watertown, Wilmington, Winchester, and Woburn. About 150 people attended total.

“The NEMLEC Police Foundation exists to help police departments and communities, and that is only possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors in the private sector,” said Sharon Crowley, the Foundation Coordinator. “We are very grateful for the tremendous turnout at the Multi-Chamber event last Monday!”

The NEMLEC Police Foundation is currently raising money for its annual Golf Tournament, the foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds going directly to law enforcement programs the NEMLEC region, which includes most of Middlesex County and Essex County. Partnerships with business leaders are vital in raising the money needed to continue the work of NEMLEC and the NEMLEC Police Foundation.

The 2014 NEMLEC Police Foundation Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut. For more information, or to become a sponsor, call 978-852-3589.

With funds raised in previous years, the Foundation has been able to offer prestigious trainings to hundreds of police officers in Middlesex and Essex counties, as well as elite training to NEMLEC units, including:

  • School Threat Assessment Response System (STARS) Training
  • Trained 150 detectives through our Two Week In-depth Criminal Investigation Training
  • Supervisor Training through Roger Williams University
  • Comprehensive motorcycle training for the NEMLEC Motor Unit
  • Advanced Tactical Training (SWAT/RRT)
  • K9 Training
