PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion and a structure fire at a residential property on Monday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to a 2 1/2-story home at 35 Haven Road shortly before 10 a.m. for a 911 call reporting an explosion and a fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire pouring out of the second floor in the front of the building. Firefighters immediately made an aggressive attack to stop the spread of the blaze and quickly brought it under control. The fire was extinguished within about 20 minutes.

All occupants of the home were able to get out of the building before the arrival of Plymouth firefighters.

No injuries were reported, but one occupant was evaluated on scene.

The six occupants of the home were displaced as a result of the fire. The Plymouth Fire Department is working with the American Red Cross of Massachusetts to find them temporary housing.

The cause of the explosion and the fire is under investigation by the Plymouth Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire response at 35 Haven Road included four Plymouth Fire engines. The Bourne Fire Department provided station coverage during the fire response.

The house fire occurred in a challenging spot, due to a lack of fire hydrants in this area of town. But Plymouth firefighters drew enough water from the supplies kept on their engines to quickly douse the heavy flames, preventing the blaze from spreading into the attic of the home.

“We were able to knock down the fire with water we brought with us to the scene,” Chief Foley said. “The first arriving engine recognized what we needed to do and were able to make a transitional attack on the fire, keeping it out of the attic space. We made an interior attack and extinguished the fire. They had a lot of work to do without a continuous water supply, but they did a great job of preventing the fire from getting into the attic and completely engulfing the home.”
