ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott T. Lachance reports that the Attleboro Fire Department responded to multiple emergencies overnight.
At approximately 12 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, Attleboro Fire Department crews responded to the area of Angeline Street at Washington Street for a reported motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, firefighters located a single vehicle that had struck a retaining wall and sustained significant front-end damage.
The sole male occupant was found unresponsive inside the vehicle. Crews used hydraulic rescue tools to free the driver, a process that took approximately 10 minutes to complete. CPR was initiated immediately, and the patient was transported to a Rhode Island hospital for emergency care.
A dog was also located inside the vehicle and was found deceased.
Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 1:36 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Attleboro Police Department.
During the same time period, crews responded to 113 Olive St., a manufacturing facility, for activation of fire alarms.
Upon investigation, firefighters encountered an area of the building with significant smoke accumulation. The source of the smoke was determined to be a malfunctioning motor belt. Power to the equipment was secured, and ventilation fans were used to clear the smoke. No further hazards were identified.
Earlier in this same evening, firefighters responded to South Avenue in the area of Interstate 95 for a reported rollover crash.
Crews located a vehicle on its roof upon arrival. The sole driver was able to self-extricate prior to the arrival of emergency personnel and declined transport to the hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Attleboro Police Department.
“These incidents highlight the unpredictable nature of emergency response and the wide range of calls our firefighters handle at any hour,” said Attleboro Fire District Chief Mark Renker. “Our crews responded quickly and worked together to mitigate each situation safely and effectively.”
