WOBURN – Cup stacking, scavenger hunts, and indoor snowball fights were all on the agenda last week when students from Linscott-Rumford Elementary School visited the Woburn Public Library.
Grade 1-5 students visited the library as part of a field trip organized by the school and sponsored by the Linscott-Rumford Parent Teacher Organization.
Apart from receiving a lesson on how to navigate the children’s section of the library, the students participated in a scavenger hunt, and took home a flyer about future library events.
At the end of the field trip, 105 new library cards were issued.

Principal Judy Merra was pleased with the field trip.
“Teaching literacy doesn’t start and stop at classrooms. It extends to other institutions, such as public libraries,” she said. “In fact, a library is one of the most creative ways to teach literacy. It exposes students to worlds far outside their own: teaching them new words and enabling them to reflect on the lives that they lead.
Superintendent Matthew Crowley and Principal Merra thank the Linscott-Rumford PTO for supplying funding for transportation, and the Woburn Public Library for hosting students.
