Greater Lowell Technical High School Announces September Students of the Month

TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent-Director Jill Davis and Assistant Superintendent/ Principal Michael Barton are pleased to announce the Greater Lowell Technical High School September students of the month.

TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent-Director Jill Davis and Assistant Superintendent/ Principal Michael Barton are pleased to announce the Greater Lowell Technical High School September students of the month.

The following students have been selected as Students of the Month for September 2023. Each student displayed characteristics of Greater Lowell Tech’s core values, R.E.A.C.H., by showing Respect, Effort, Accountability, Commitment, and Honesty among their peers and in classes.

September Students of the Month: 

Senior Student of the Month Logan Briggs

  • Logan is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from the Butler Middle School. Logan is majoring in Health Assisting/PreNursing and pursues a challenging academic schedule which includes Honors-level courses in English, PreCalculus, Physics, and Psychology. In addition, Logan has completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through GLTHS’s partnership with Quincy College. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and serves as a Student Ambassador and a Summer Program Student Leader. Logan is also a SkillsUSA Chapter Officer, Edge of Leadership Student Facilitator, and Morning Announcement Team Leader. Logan is active in community service activities and has participated in countless events including the Lowell City of Lights Parade, 8th Grade Tours, Back to School Nights, and Open Houses. He has also facilitated at High Five Adventure in Vermont and has been an instructor for the Lowell Youth Leadership Program. Logan is a member of GLTHS Varsity Tennis Team as both a player and team manager and has earned the CAC Unsung Hero Award for the past two years. He has also participated in the school’s Cooperative Education Program working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the community. Outside of school, Logan works as an Assistant Checkout Manager at Market Basket in Littleton and a CNA at Blaire House in Tewksbury. He also dances with Guiding Light Dance Academy in Dracut. Logan embodies all of GLTHS core values every day and is described as “a student who is committed to making GLTHS a great place for all students, staff, and members of the community. Following graduation, Logan is planning to continue his education and explore careers in both Adventure Education and School Counseling.

Senior Student of the Month Alexander Mandeville

  • Alexander is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell as a transfer from Greater Lawrence, who also attended Tenney Grammar School in Methuen. Alexander is majoring in Information Technology Services and is ranked first in the Senior class with an overall GPA of 4.46. He is pursuing a rigorous academic schedule with honors-level coursework in English and Physics, and Advanced Placement courses in Calculus AB and Computer Science A. Alexander has also completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through GLTHS’s partnership with Quincy College. He has earned high honor roll grades since entering Greater Lowell and has won awards with the CVS Data Analytics Program and UMass Lowell Math Competition. He also received multiple technical certifications in addition to completing the BAE Focus Program and a Computational Thinking Certificate. Alexander participates in the school’s cooperative education program and is employed by BAE in Nashua. Alexander embodies the core values of commitment and effort. His technical instructor describes him as a motivated student who “always works hard and is willing to help other students.” Following graduation, Alexander plans to continue in the IT Field and pursue a degree in Computer Science at UMass Amherst.

Junior Student of the Month Mairead Hickok 

  • Mairead is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from the Pyne Arts Magnet School. Mairead is majoring in Design and Visual Communications and maintains an overall GPA of 4.19. She is pursuing a challenging academic course load which includes Honors English, Honors PreCalculus, and Honors Physics. Mairead is a member of GLTHS Student Leaders program, Art Club, and Poetry Club. She was inducted into the National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society in November. She is also a member of GLTHS Varsity Golf and Varsity Tennis teams. Mairead has earned awards for honor roll and an academic excellence award in Health. Outside of school, Mairead is an active member of the Girl Scouts. Mairead embodies GLTHS’s core values of honesty, effort, and commitment. She is described by her History instructor as “a thoughtful student who is always putting forth her best effort.” After graduation, Mairead is hoping to continue her education and pursue a career as an author and illustrator.

Sophomore Student of the Month Kaylene Bui 

  • Kaylene is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from the Daley Middle School. Kaylene is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and maintains an overall GPA of 4.28. They are pursuing honors-level coursework in English, History, and Geometry, as well as Dual Enrollment Chemistry through GTLHS’s  partnership with Quincy College. Kaylene is a member of the Student Council, NABT BioClub, Student Ambassador Team, Morning Announcement Team, and SkillsUSA. Kaylene was selected as a student who demonstrates the core values of respect, effort, and commitment. They are described as an involved student who is poised, mature, and dedicated to their studies, has excellent time management, and cares about their peers. Following graduation, Kaylene hopes to obtain a bachelor’s degree and continue on to medical school.

These students went above in beyond both in and out of the classroom, displaying skills and kindness to their peers and staff.

“I want to congratulate all of our hard-working students for their dedication to excellence and for truly embodying our core values,” said Superintendent Davis. “These students help make our school a better place and I am excited to see what they accomplish next.”
