NORWOOD — Superintendent David Thomson is pleased to announce that Norwood Public Schools has partnered with McLean Hospital for a series of online events focusing on youth mental health.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Norwood Public Schools partnered with McLean Hospital in Belmont in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of mental health and provide families with resources to best support them.
Implemented during the 2022-2023 school year, NHS Leaders in Youth Mental Health Parent Series is an ongoing series in partnership with McLean Hospital meant to provide caregivers with information and strategies to navigate raising children and providing mental health support for them.
The series will feature a guest appearance by various McLean practitioners.
On Thursday, Nov. 30, at 9 a.m., Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker Catherine Lopes and Doctor of Psychology Melanie Harkins will host “Helping Families Navigate the Mental Health System.”
During the event, participants will become familiar with different services offered in the state of Massachusetts and understand how to access various levels of care for youth.

- Parenting in the Context of Anxiety: What Parents Need to Know to Support Their Children and Themselves: Jan.17, 2024, from 9-10 a.m.
- Understanding Transgender and Non-Binary Youth: March 8, 2024, from 9-10 a.m.
- Understanding Pediatric Anxiety Disorders and OCD: March 22, 2024, from 12-1 p.m.
- Partnering with Schools for Services and Supports: April 5, 2024, from 9-10 a.m.

In addition to this series, Norwood High School partners with McLean Hospital for clinical consultations to best support student mental health needs, staff professional development, and a private parent mental health series on topics of interest to Norwood families.
