LITTLETON — Superintendent Kelly Clenchy is pleased to share that Littleton Middle School students recently participated in the school’s Country Expo.

The Country Expo took place on the morning of Thursday, June 15 in the Middle School Gym. The Expo is an interdisciplinary project where students in Grade 6 complete components in all of their core classes, culminating in a world-fair-style community event.

Before the Expo, each student is randomly assigned a country to represent. Students then create a tri-fold presentation and accompany it with a “wow factor” element, something outside of their board that enhances their presentation such as food, clothing, or music. Students also rehearse speaking and answering questions about their assigned country.

A team of Grade 6 teachers spent weeks redesigning the project to make it more accessible in light of the educational landscape changing immensely after the pandemic. Through implementing the use of technology, they aimed to develop the skills they felt were most important for students to learn including executive functioning skills needed to complete a long-term project, creating digital images, and speaking skills.

“The Country Expo serves as a way for our school to connect with our community and invite families in to see what their students are capable of. Our Grade 6 students show a tremendous amount of growth throughout the year and this event allows us to display that growth in an incredibly tangible way,” said Social Studies Teacher Dustin Brideau, who spearheaded the organization of the event. “The event also really impacts me as an educator. Seeing our students proudly show off their work to families, teachers, and other students gives me a great feeling of joy!”

LMS students, teachers, staff, parents, and administrators gathered in the Gym to see what the students had put together.

“I was so impressed with our students‘ preparation, knowledge, and presentation of the projects at the Country Expo,” said Superintendent Clenchy. “This event is an amazing display of knowledge, determination, and skill from our students, and it takes an immense effort to organize. Thank you to everyone involved in putting this wonderful event together!”
