Ed Fenn Elementary Students Participate in Read Across America Program

GORHAM – Superintendent David Backler and Principal Tina Binette are pleased to share that students from Ed Fenn Elementary School recently participated in this year’s Read Across America program.

The school held a weeklong event for students with interactive activities, including Spirit Week in which students could dress up in fun outfits.

School LibrarianKaren Woods organizes Read Across America each year. This year’s theme was Superheroes. During the week students read books about superheroes and were tasked with nightly reading goals. Each student received a hero mask and was awarded stickers based on how many reading tasks they completed.

Local superheroes including nurses, firefighters, and police officers including Gorham Police Chief Adam Marsh, visited Ed Fenn students throughout the week.

The week ended with a superhero obstacle course for students in the morning and a showing of superhero movies in the afternoon.

“This event was a wonderful way to get our students involved and excited about reading,” said Principal Binette. “Mrs. Woods does a phenomenal job each year coordinating our school’s Read Across America program. I would also like to thank our local heroes for taking the time to read to our students throughout the week,”
