MARLBOROUGH 一 Superintendent Ernest F. Houle is pleased to announce that Assabet Regional Vocational Technical High School senior Henry Christensen has been recruited by the Spanish soccer club Odisea FC.

Henry Christensen, a senior metal fabrication student, began playing soccer when he was only 4. As he grew older, he developed a passion for the sport that was fostered by his love for physical activity and his natural talent.

While playing for both Assabet’s school team and a local premier club, Boston Bolts FC, Christensen received an email expressing interest from Odisea FC.

The Spanish club, which competes in the 1ª Regional Valenciana league, recruits players from across the globe, strives for the highest achievements in all competitions, and aims to instill their values of intensity, authenticity, cohesion, and ambition within their players.

Christensen, who plays as a center back on Assabet’s defensive line, sent the club a video showcasing his skills. Upon seeing his talent, the Spanish club recruited him to play for the team for 10 months.

“I’m excited. It’s a little scary and also sad because I’ll be leaving everything behind, but the opportunity will be so worth it,” said Christensen.

The soccer star plans to defer his college acceptance for one year while he travels the world, and recognizes that this opportunity is once in a lifetime.

“My coaches and teammates over the past few years have really helped me improve and develop my skills,” he said. “I’m so thankful for all that they’ve done for me. I’ll definitely miss playing at Assabet.”

Christensen plans to leave for Casdellón, Spain, at the end of August, where he’ll train with his Odisea FC teammates.

“We are so proud to see Henry accomplish something so impressive,” said Superintendent Houle. “Having him as part of our Assabet soccer team has been an honor and we are very excited to see what he accomplishes in the future with his teammates in Spain. Congrats Henry!”
