WOBURN – Principal Rob Nickerson is pleased to announce that a number of Malcolm White Elementary School students were recently gifted shoes from the nonprofit Shoes That Fit.

The mission of Shoes That Fit, which is sponsored by Nordstrom, is to provide shoes to children in need. Nurse Catherine Lichoulas and teachers Lorena Bradbury, Madeleine Clark, Donaria Sapienza and Kathreen Schubert worked with the nonprofit to provide 50 students with new pairs of Nike sneakers. Students were identified based on need and parental approval. It was Lichoulas’ idea to get involved with this program.

“A new pair of shoes can have a huge positive impact on students and their self-confidence,” Principal Nickerson said. “A pair of shoes can contribute to so much, from self-esteem improvements to behavior improvements. It’s a seemingly small item that can put a smile on our students’ faces.”

Shoes That Fit believes that when students are equipped with suitable footwear, they can better enjoy childhood experiences. By getting new shoes, children can be more engaged in learning and play.
