Event to Feature Ambulance Simulator and Business Suite Ribbon-Cutting, Opportunities to Speak to Senior Interns

BOURNE — Bourne High School will be hosting an Innovation Pathways Open House next week to showcase the district’s programs that provide students with unique and comprehensive lessons and hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of fields and industries.
The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the high school’s new ambulance simulator and iMac Lab Business Suite, and a demonstration of the Sustainable Living Aquaponics Lab.
There will also be an opportunity to speak with senior interns and current Innovation Pathways participants, along with a panel discussion on college and career planning.
“This will truly be a special event where we can showcase the depth of experience and learning our students are able to achieve through our growing Innovation Pathways programs,” Supt. Quinlan-Zhou said. “Our seniors have been working hard throughout the school year at their internships and we’re excited to hear them share their experiences.”

WHAT:
Open to families and community members, the open house event will showcase the District’s new Innovation Pathways in Business/Finance and Environmental/Life Science, and will also highlight the planned Health Science pathway for 2023.
In addition, the event will introduce the school’s new Medical Center and Business Suite funded through FY22 and FY23 Skills Capital grants.
As part of an initiative by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Innovation Pathways are designed to provide students with coursework and experience in specific high-demand industries.
Features of the open house event will include:
Speak with Senior Interns
Talk to senior interns about their college and career exploration and on-the-job training experiences in a variety of fields such as interior design, law enforcement, athletic training, marketing, nursing, real estate, veterinary science, and much more.
Medical Center
Explore the new ambulance simulator, patient-care manikins, and new first aid, medical and CPR equipment. Students and families will learn about course options and certifications associated with the medical field and public safety.
Business Suite
Tour the new iMac Lab, home to the district’s graphics, marketing and advertising programs, and the future home to their Finance Lab. Visit the Client Center in the Business Suite where student entrepreneurs help clients with their design and product needs.
Sustainable Living Lab
Find out more about the Aquaponics Lab, where students apply their skills to create a food production system that combines aquaculture with hydroponics. Learn how the space mimics a natural ecosystem.

“We are really excited to share with the community the tremendous growth of our Innovation Pathways programs, including the kickoff of our new Business/Finance and Environmental/Life Science pathways,” Principal Cetner said. “These programs provide students with dynamic coursework and hands-on experience that will help better prepare them for life after high school, whether they attend college or go directly into the workforce. I want to commend our School to Career/Innovation Pathways Coordinator Ann-Marie Strode who has really turned our program into one of the best and most unique the state has to offer.”
DESE Commissioner Jeffrey C. Riley, State Rep. David Veira and State Rep. Steven Xiarhos are planning to be in attendance during the event.
