MILTON — Pastor Fr. Eric Bennett and the St. Mary of the Hills School Board are pleased to announce that Devon King has accepted the position of Assistant Principal for the school.

King assumed the position of Assistant Principal and Director of the Early Childhood Center for the school this summer.

This is a brand new administrative position to the school community for the 2022-2023 school year. During the interview process for the new principal position, Fr. Bennett and the board listened to the school community as well as reports from outgoing principal Julie Marotta and found that St. Mary of the Hills School would be stronger with more communication and interaction between the students and staff of the two buildings.

The addition of this position is aimed, in part, at doing that.

“We are blessed with so many good teachers at our school and are excited to promote Devon following an internal search for this position,” School Board Chair Dr. Christopher Vasta said. “We look forward to Devon joining our leadership team in this new role.”

Most recently, King was one of the school’s kindergarten teachers. For the past 15 years, she has been a faculty member and has taught at both the ECC and elementary school levels.

“Devon’s valuable experience in both buildings, her passion for teaching, her love for kids, her desire to help parents, and her leadership skills will be a great asset for our school in this new position,” Fr. Bennett said. “I believe that Devon’s gifts and talents in the classroom will be well utilized in this new position. She is very excited about this new opportunity to work with our teachers in serving the children and parents at our school.”

King looks to build on her many years of service to the St. Mary of the Hills School community as she enters her new role.

“My own spirituality led me to St. Mary’s and along with the students and fellow faculty has kept me here to this day,” King said. “I am blessed to be able to intertwine education and faith on a daily basis.”

Fr. Eric Bennett and the St. Mary of the Hills School Board would like to thank Danielle Hulme, who previously served as ECC Director, for her leadership during these past three years. She has helped to build a foundation at the Early Childhood Center that has made it a place of first friendships, wonderment in learning, and excitement in creativity. Hulme’s willingness to take on both tasks of teaching and administrative duties has helped to bring the school to the strong place where it is today.

Hulme will be returning to her full time teaching role with students in the Early Learning program this school year.
