DIGHTON — Town Administrator Michael Mullen is pleased to announce that Town Accountant Janelle Vining and Board of Selectmen Executive Assistant Karin Brady have completed a Municipal Finance Management Certificate program last week.

On Friday, Nov. 19, Vining and Brady completed the Municipal Finance Management Seminar hosted by Suffolk University and the Massachusetts Municipal Association.

As part of the seminar, attendees learned about municipal finance in Massachusetts, including operational aspects of finance structure, and systems and processes in Massachusetts cities and towns. Topics also included budgeting, fiscal reporting, financial planning and forecasting, capital planning, treasury functions and property assessment.

Vining, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), assumed the role of Dighton’s Town Accountant in August. Brady, who has served as the executive assistant to the Board of Selectmen for the past seven years, plays a key role in the annual budget process, drafting town meeting warrants and coordinating project management for various town initiatives.

Their graduation coincides with the start of Dighton’s Financial Management Review with the Department of Revenue and the re-establishment of the town’s Capital Outlay Committee and capital planning process.

“We are proud to build a new Financial Team here in Dighton informed by fiscal responsibility and municipal best practices, especially as we prioritize financial and capital planning,” Town Administrator Mullen said. “On behalf of the Town of Dighton, I would like to congratulate Janelle and Karin for successfully completing the program.”
