Canton High School Ranked Among 2021 Best U.S. High Schools

Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller is pleased to announce that Canton High School has earned a spot on the list of the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools.

CANTON — Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller is pleased to announce that Canton High School has earned a spot on the list of the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools.

Canton High School placed 39 of 229 Boston metro-area high schools, 47 of 365 Massachusetts high schools and 1,055 among the national rankings. The school received an overall score of 94.09/100. Schools ranked in the top 40% nationally (#7,143 or better) achieve status as a U.S. News Best High School.

Ranked by 2021 U.S. News & World Report, the Best High Schools Report ranks nearly 18,000 high schools in the nation and provides school-specific data on enrollment, graduation rates, student body demographics, location, school type and results of state assessments as well as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests.

“We take pride in our ability to offer a variety of courses and extracurricular opportunities at Canton High School that allow students to follow their interests and prepare them for their futures after they leave our district,” Superintendent Dr. Fischer-Mueller said. “This ranking would not be possible without our educators and administrators, and I thank them for their dedication and efforts.”

Schools are ranked based on six factors:

  • College Readiness 
  • College Curriculum Breadth
  • Math and Reading Proficiency 
  • Math and Reading Performance
  • Underserved Student Performance 
  • Graduation Rate

Out of all Massachusetts’ ranked schools, CHS ranked 46 in College Readiness, 26 in College Curriculum Breadth, 65 in Math and Reading Proficiency, 83 in Math and Reading Performance and 93 in Graduation Rate.

According to U.S. News data, approximately 66% of Canton High School’s students participate in Advanced Placement coursework and exams and the graduation rate is 98%.

Students choose from a number of courses in the subjects of English; social studies; math; science; world language; wellness; visual, performing, and/or industrial arts; and computers or technology, many of which are available at Honors, Advanced Placement and College Preparatory levels. Additionally, CHS students are generally required to complete community service learning hours each year.

To expand on their interests outside of the classroom, students can be involved in many different clubs, music and performing arts activities and athletic programs.

U.S. News Best High Schools numerically ranked nearly 18,000 schools nationwide this year. The Best High Schools rankings, available online only, are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. 

The 2021 edition of Best High Schools includes a numerical ranking of nearly all public high schools nationwide – almost 18,000 of them. There are rankings within each state and within each census-designated metropolitan area that has three or more high schools, as well as the Best STEM Schools ranking and comprehensive Best Charter Schools and Best Magnet Schools rankings.
