Greater Lowell Tech Receives $250,000 Skills Capital Grant

TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent Jill Davis is pleased to share that Greater Lowell Technical High School has been awarded a $250,000 Skills Capital grant from the Baker-Polito Administration.

The funding will allow the school to purchase new robotics equipment and upgrade its Engineering STEM Lab. The improvements will support Greater Lowell Tech’s programming for day students, afternoon youth programs and adult evening classes in engineering and electronics. Greater Lowell Tech has also partnered with Middlesex Community College and Greater Lowell MassHire on programs to train students in these high-demand technical areas.

“We’re thrilled to receive this funding, which is going to provide a tremendous benefit to our students in these programs,” Superintendent Davis said. “The Skills Capital grants are a great initiative to support career and technical education in schools and colleges across the state that are training students and adults to join the workforce in industries that are not only growing but need more skilled employees.”

Greater Lowell Tech is one of 47 educational institutions who were awarded Skills Capital grants by the Baker-Polito administration today. In all, $11.7 million in funds were allocated to support the purchase of updated equipment and the growth of student enrollment in career and technical education programs. 

Skills Cabinet grants are awarded to educational institutions that are able to showcase their partnerships with local businesses and whose curriculum and credentials seek to meet the demand of growing industries in the Commonwealth.

Through its Skills Capital grants, the Baker-Polito administration has worked to increase the number of students enrolled in programs where they can learn and train for occupations in high-demand careers. More than 300 educational programs have received financial support from the Skills Capital grant initiative, which has awarded approximately $92 million and is overseen by Gov. Baker’s Workforce Skills Cabinet.
