WEYMOUTH  — Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple and Weymouth High School Principal Alan Strauss are pleased to announce that 123 seniors at Weymouth High School are among seniors statewide to receive a John and Abigail Adams Scholarship this year.

Two of the recipients of this year’s John and Abigail Adams Scholarship are from last year’s senior class.

“We are extremely proud of our seniors for earning such high scores on their MCAS testing,” Principal Strauss said. “The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a well-earned recognition our students have received that is a tangible example of their dedication and success.”

This scholarship is available to students whose MCAS performance puts them in thetop 25% of their district. To be eligible, students must either score Advanced on the English, Math and Science exams, or Advanced on one exam and High Proficient on the other two. Students take the MCAS tests in the spring of their sophomore year.

Recipients of the Adams Scholarship are granted a four-year scholarship upon their acceptance to a participating Massachusetts public institution of higher education, including the four undergraduate campuses of the University of Massachusetts, all nine state universities and all fifteen community colleges. The exact amount of the Adams Scholarship will depend on the institution in which the student enrolls, but for full-time, in-state students, it currently averages:

  • At the undergraduate campuses of the University of Massachusetts: a credit of $1,575 per year toward total student charges
  • At the state universities: a credit of $1,036 per year toward total student charges
  • At the community colleges: a credit of $740 per year toward total student charges

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Weymouth High School will host a virtual award ceremony in place of its annual in-person award ceremony at a later date.
