WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Grenno is pleased to announce that the Whitman Fire Department will be wearing pink t-shirts throughout October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month occurs every October and is an international health campaign that works to increase awareness about the disease and to raise money to support research into its cause, prevention efforts, diagnosis, treatment and to eventually find a cure.

For several years, members of the Whitman Firefighters Union have purchased and donned the pink shirts as a way to raise awareness for breast cancer research.

“We are pleased to be raising awareness for breast cancer research through the wearing of pink shirts this month,” Chief Grenno said. “This disease unfortunately hits home for far too many of us, and we encourage everyone to do their part in raising awareness or donating to the American Cancer Society or other local organization during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
