WHITMAN — Whitman-Hanson Regional School District Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak reports that due to the increase in remote enrollment for the 2020-21 school year as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Whitman Middle School Principal Mike Grable has been named the new K-8 Principal for Remote Education.
In this new role, Principal Grable will oversee the remote education of students and the supervision of Whitman-Hanson staff who are teaching virtually as part of the district’s hybrid model.
District-wide there are 310 K-8 and 110 high school students choosing fully remote education, in addition to 17 staff members who are teaching remotely or virtually in the hybrid model.
Principal Grable has been with the district since 1993 serving as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.
Kerri Sandler, the current Whitman Middle School Assistant Principal, will become the Interim Principal at the school for the rest of the school year.
“Given the high volume of students enrolled in remote learning, we recognized the need for this new Principal for Remote Education position, and consider Principal Grable to be an excellent choice,” Superintendent Szymaniak said. “Since schools opened for the year last week things have been running very smoothly, and we will continue to assess the situation and make adjustments as needed as the year progresses.”
