Bridgewater Fire Department Rescues Man from Hotel Room Fire

BRIDGEWATER — Chief Thomas D. Levy reports that the Bridgewater Fire Department rescued an unconscious man from a hotel room that was on fire early Thursday morning.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., Bridgewater Fire responded for a report of a fire at the Marriott Residence Inn, 2020 Pleasant St.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke on the second floor of the hotel. Firefighters had to force entry into one of the rooms where they found a fire in the kitchen area and a man that was unconscious lying in a bed.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and removed the man from the hotel and provided him with medical care in a Bridgewater Fire ambulance. The man, age 42 from Elk Grove, California, was then transported to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive.

There were no other injuries reported and approximately 100 people were evacuated from the hotel. The fire was contained to the man’s room, however six or seven rooms sustained smoke and water damage.

The initial investigation indicates that the fire is not suspicious. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Department investigation unit led by Deputy Chief Michael MacDermott.

Chief Levy credited the responding firefighters with saving the man’s life.

“This is a large building with many people inside. Our firefighters did a great job of locating the source of the fire and forcing entry into the room in order to get to the man inside,” Chief Levy said. “Thankfully we were able to get to him in time and prevent the fire from spreading further.”

The Raynham Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide mutual aid and the East Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage.
