BRIDGEWATER — Chief Thomas D. Levy is pleased to announce that the Bridgewater Fire Department will honor its emergency medical personnel this week as part of national EMS week.
This year’s EMS Week began Sunday, May 17 and ends Saturday, May 23. The annual event celebrates the work of emergency medical practitioners who are on the front lines protecting residents in their communities when emergencies arise.
The Bridgewater Fire Department responds to over 3,000 medical transport calls per year, making emergency medical calls the vast majority of the calls that the department responds to each year and further emphasizes the invaluable role EMS providers play on a daily basis. This has become even more apparent during the COVID-19 global health pandemic.
“Our EMS staff are vital to our department’s mission of taking care of our community in all types of situations,” Chief Levy said. “They always work hard to administer life-saving care in a vast array of emergencies, and this is even truer during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Bridgewater Fire Department has over 50 emergency medical professionals. Each group and its staff will be recognized this week with lunch.
A special dedication was also made by the American College of Emergency Physicians this year for EMS workers who have died due to COVID-19 related complications.
