Easton Fire Department Limiting Public Access to Fire Stations as Coronavirus Precaution

EASTON — Chief Kevin Partridge reports that the Easton Fire Department will be limiting access to the public at its fire stations as way to limit the spread of COVID-19, and would like to assure Easton residents that the level of service provided by the department will not change.

The Easton Fire Department will continue to respond to all emergencies. However, beginning today, the department will be limiting access to the fire stations to outside visitors for general business and for events such as fire station tours and public education events.

This proactive approach will limit the risk of COVID-19 exposure to fire personnel and is meant to enhance the practice of social distancing.

Easton Fire crews will remain diligent in their efforts to clean fire apparatus and equipment, as well as wearing appropriate protective equipment when needed. 

All three of the fires stations (48 Lothrop Street, 87 Depot Street and 413 Bay Road) have notifications posted at their main entrances outlining steps to take if a member of the public needs to speak with a firefighter at the station.

To practice appropriate social distancing, Easton Fire is requesting that individuals stand six feet away from the door once they ring the bell or knock on the door. When staff answers the door, they will be asked to notify department staff if they have a fever, cough or are suffering from other respiratory distress. This will allow for the opportunity for staff to put on proper protective equipment.

The following services will be shut down until further notice (effective immediately): 

• Sharps collection at our Bay Road Station. 
• The Burning Permit terminal in the lobby at Fire Station #3 (413 Bay Rd.). Residents can continue to access the online burning permit portal through eastonfire.com. 
• All fire inspections have been cancelled until further notice. Updates will be provided when available. 

“We appreciate your patience and adherence to our new guidelines during these difficult times,” Chief Partridge said. “Right now, the most important thing we can do is practice social distancing as best as we can.
