Exeter High School Named One of the Best Public High Schools in the U.S.

EXETER — Principal Michael Monahan is pleased to announce that Exeter High School earned a spot as one of the 100 Best Public High Schools in the U.S.

Ranked by TheBestSchools.org, the list distinguishes institutions for their excellence in education.

Exeter High School placed at 96 and is recognized for its excellence in preparing students for life after graduation, whether they’re entering college or the workforce. The school serves students from Exeter, Brentwood, Kensington, East Kingston, Newfields and Stratham.

“We are very proud of our students and staff for being recognized for their consistent and relentless pursuit of excellence,” Superintendent Dr. David Ryan said. “Exeter High School is our flagship school, and this latest accolade should serve as an affirmation for the teachers and staff in all of our schools for their hard work in preparing students for the rigors of EHS.”

Schools are ranked based on 11 factors:

• Strength of high school curriculum
• Student graduation rate
• Performance of disadvantaged students
• Student-teacher ratio
• Student reviews (from notable sources)
• Percentage of college bound students
• Facilities, clubs and activities
• School Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) participation rate
• When applicable, percent of students who took AP tests and passed, and percent of students who took IB tests and passed
• Reading and math results on each state’s proficiency tests
• SAT/ACT scores

“We’re extremely pleased and honored to be recognized as one of the nation’s top high schools,” Principal Monahan said. “This designation illustrates the efforts of teachers, faculty and staff who work hard year round to provide our students with an educational experience that rivals our peers in the region, state and country.”

At Exeter High School, students can choose from 150 courses in 12 disciplines, including 11 AP classes.

Through SAU 16’s Running Start program, which enables high school students to take college courses for secondary and post-secondary credit, EHS students can enroll in classes through Southern New Hampshire University and Great Bay Community College.

In 2017, 70.5 percent of graduating students at Exeter High School enrolled in four-year colleges and universities, and an additional 15.2 percent enrolled in two-year colleges.

To expand on their interests outside of the classroom, students can get involved in any of the 24 clubs and activities offered at EHS, along with 23 athletic programs.
