Canton Fire Department Responds to School Van Fire on Interstate
CANTON — Chief Charles E. Doody reports that the Canton Fire Department responded after a school van caught fire on I-95 Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 3:40 p.m., Canton Fire received a report of a van that was on fire on the southbound side if I-95 near Neponset Street.
The were about 10 kids on the bus from Catholic Memorial High School and a bus driver, who all were able to safely make it off of the bus. The kids were members of the high school’s golf team.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had been extinguished by a passerby who pulled over upon seeing the fire and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
The fire was contained to the engine and inside the hood of the van and Canton firefighters checked to make sure that it had not spread further and evaluated the occupants to ensure their safety.
