Newport Police to Participate in National Coffee with a Cop Day

NEWPORT — Chief Seth DiSanto is pleased to announce that the Newport Police Department will be participating in National Coffee with a Cop Day next month.

“This event is a great way for our officers to be able to connect one-on-one with the members of our community in a casual, low-key setting,” Chief DiSanto said. “Coffee with a Cop further strengthens the relationship between the department and community and we look forward to seeing everyone at Brenda’s Diner in a couple weeks.”

WHEN:

Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 10-11:30 a.m.

WHERE:

Brenda’s Diner, 125 Main Street, Newport

WHAT:

Residents, business owners and community members are invited to meet with Newport Police officers to engage in meaningful conversation over a cup of coffee — or two.

There is no set agenda for the event, but rather a chance for residents to meet the officers who serve their community, ask questions and express any concerns they may have.

The event is part of National Coffee with a Cop Day, conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

The first Coffee with a Cop event was held in 2011 by the Hawthorne Police Department in California. The initiative has since spread globally as a simple but effective method of bringing police and communities together.
