Maynard to Open Cooling Centers During Planned Electricity Outage this Thursday

MAYNARD – Fire Chief Anthony Stowers announces that cooling centers will be available for residents during a planned electricity outage this Thursday.

On Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Eversource Energy will be shutting down electricity in parts of Maynard. Work will be done in the area of Concord Street, Summer Street and side streets off of Summer Street and Main Street, with additional locations possible.

Four cooling centers will be set up for residents who need to get out of the heat on Thursday:

  • Council on Aging (rear of the Maynard Country Club)
  • The Maynard Country Club
  • The meeting room on Powder Mill Circle
  • The Clubhouse on Concord Street Circle

Residents should note that food and water will not be provided at the cooling centers, so they should make arrangements if they plan to visit these sites. Service animals are allowed, but no other pets, please.
