Tyngsborough Police Officers Rescue Woman From Fire

TYNGSBOROUGH — Police Chief Richard D. Howe and Fire Chief Wes Russell report that two Tyngsborough Police officers rescued a woman from a fire this afternoon.

At 2:27 p.m., the Tyngsborough Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a fire at 16 Derby Lane. Upon arrival, officers entered the home, where they located a 57-year-old woman and were able to help her to safety.

The woman and the two officers who entered the home to rescue her were all transported to Lowell General Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. All three are in good condition.

“These officers went above and beyond the call of duty today in order to ensure a resident’s safety and well being,” Chief Howe said. “I am proud of them both, and am grateful that everyone is doing well.”

The Tyngsborough Fire Department was able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. A preliminary investigation indicates that the fire started on the home’s rear porch. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
