MELROSE — Principal Jason Merrill is pleased to announce that a group of Melrose High School students were honored for their work by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

On Thursday, May 17, MHS senior Lance De Selm, as well as juniors Nick Hoffmann, Fancina Roberts and Jasper White were presented with the NATAS Student Production Award for Animation/Graphics/Special Effects for the New England region. The ceremony was hosted at the WCVB studio in Needham.

The students’ winning entry was a shot-for-shot remake of the opening credits of Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” which is available here.

By winning the Boston/New England regional competition, the MHS students qualified for the NATAS national competition that will be held this fall.

“It’s been an exciting Spring for MHS-TV!  I really could not be more proud of my students. First winning the Amp it Up! Challenge and now a NATAS Student Production Award,”  MHS Video Production teacher Anthony DiBenedetto said. “It really affirms the hard work and dedication put forth by my students on a daily basis. The kids continue to impress me and really push the boundaries of what I thought was possible for high school students”
