A Statement From the Taunton Police

TAUNTON — A message from Taunton Police Public Information Officer Lt. Eric Nichols:

“On Monday afternoon, May 21, near the end of the school day, Taunton Police were notified by school officials that a threatening note was found inside the high school.

A collective decision was made, based on the preliminary investigation, to cancel school at Taunton High School and adjacent Parker Middle school due to today’s date being written on the note. Additionally, the decision was made not to hold classes on Tuesday in order to give the Taunton Police Department time to investigate and evaluate the threat.

At that time there was no reason to believe any other school faced a similar threat and that remains the case today.

This morning, Taunton Police detectives met with high school staff in regards to the ongoing investigation.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. We are asking that anyone with information about this investigation or any students who may have seen anything suspicious yesterday to please contact the Taunton Police Department at 508-824-7522.

The Taunton Police Department and the Taunton School Department will continue to work together in an effort to keep all schools safe.

All schools will be open tomorrow with normal school hours, including after school activities.
