Bedford, N.H. Police to Participate in Law Enforcement Torch Run

BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John J. Bryfonski is pleased to announce that the Bedford Police Department will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) as part of the 2018 Special Olympics New Hampshire State Summer Games.

The LETR is a series of runs totaling more than 500 miles, where the Flame of Hope is carried to the opening ceremonies at the Special Olympics New Hampshire State Summer Games. Each participating law enforcement agency runs the flame through their hometown and then passes it off to the next agency.

On Wednesday, May 30, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Bedford Police will be carrying the Flame of Hope from the Bedford/Merrimack town line to Bedford High School via South River Road, Back River Road and County Road.

“We are honored to participate in the torch run to show our appreciation and admiration for the athletes of Special Olympics New Hampshire,” Chief Bryfonski said. “I hope that residents will come out to the starting line to support our officers or cheer them on throughout the route.”

The flame’s journey will end at the University of New Hampshire in Durham on June 1, where it will be used to light the cauldron during the opening ceremonies of the summer games. More than 800 athletes from across New Hampshire will participate in the Special Olympics by competing in athletics, bocce, equestrian, power lifting, sprint triathlon and swimming.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run:

Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics (LETR) is a volunteer movement that was established by members of the law enforcement community to support Special Olympics. The mission of LETR is to increase awareness and raise funds for the Special Olympics movement.
