BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John J. Bryfonski reports that a portion of Wallace Road will be closed for most of the remainder of the day following a single-car crash this morning.

At 11:38 a.m., the Bedford Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of Wallace Road between Brick Mill and Nashua Roads for a report of a crash. Upon arrival, first responders observed a vehicle with front end damage and a small brush fire was burning nearby.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and power was temporarily shut off in the area.

Following a preliminary investigation, Bedford Police determined that the driver, a 61-year-old Bedford woman, lost control of her vehicle while traveling southbound on Wallace Road and struck a stone wall and a utility pole near the intersection with Rutledge Road. She was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Wallace Road remains closed in both directions between Nashua Road and Brick Mill Road while crews work to repair the broken pole, which could take up to 12 hours to complete. During that time, only local traffic will have access to the area.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
