Avon Middle-High School Hosts Career Day for 10th Graders
AVON — Principal Dawn Stockwell is pleased to announce that the Avon Middle-High School hosted a successful Career Day last week for students in the 10th grade.
The second annual event took place on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and was put on in partnership with the parent group Avon Schools-Community Partnerships.
Seventeen professionals from a number of vocations — aviation, law enforcement, beauty care, education, child care, health care and others — came to speak with students about their experiences and how they got to where they are today.
The sessions were held in 15 minute blocks and students were able to attend each presentation by rotating between speakers.
Each speaker talked about their educational experiences and what degrees, licenses, certifications, exams, internships and apprenticeships were required for their respective professions.
They then talked about their job responsibilities and the skill sets they cultivated in order to be successful.
“Sophomore year is the perfect time for students to begin thinking about what they want to do when they graduate and the paths they need to follow in order to achieve their dreams,” Principal Stockwell said. “All of the speakers were able to provide invaluable advice and insight to our students, and I’m pleased with how engaged our students were throughout the event.”
