Eight Inducted Into Rockland High School Athletic Hall of Fame

ROCKLAND — Athletic Director Gary Graziano is pleased to announce that eight individuals were inducted into the Rockland High School Athletic Hall of Fame at a dinner and ceremony held at the Rockland Golf Course last weekend.

The inductees were:

• John Carey, Class of 1932 — Football (Posthumously represented by his son, Robert Carey)
• William Hoss, Class of 1952 — Track and Cross Country (Posthumously represented by his son, Derek)
• Thomas Bailey, coach of over 30 years (honorary member)
• Michael Flaherty, Class of 1987 — Hockey
• Dan O’Brien, Class of 1995 — Football and Basketball
• Anthony McSharry, Class of 1995 — Football
• Jessica Mellen Devereaux, Class of 2006 — Basketball
• Stephanie Crawford, Class of 2008 — Basketball

Graziano, who served as master of ceremonies at the event on Saturday, Nov. 18, said the induction is a fitting showcase of the athletic tradition in the town of Rockland.

“The hall of fame induction is a great event for all of Rockland because it allows us to recognize our great athletes and coaches for their contributions on and off the field,” Graziano said. “All of them share a commitment to being involved, not only in our athletic programs, but also in the Rockland community, which is what ultimately sets hall-of-famers apart.”

Presenters included former RHS Principal, A. Scott MacKinlay, Hoss’ teammate John Spinale, John Carey’s granddaughter Kim Carey, Flaherty’s son, Michael Flaherty Jr., RHS Head Football Coach, Nick Liquori, Hall of Famer, Mike McSharry, former Girls Basketball Coach, Madeline Lannin-Cotton, and Girls Basketball Coach Diana Mitchell.

Serving on the Hall of Fame Committee are Lannin-Cotton, Liquori, Graziano, Kathleen Paulding, Fredrick Damon and Stephen Sangster. Since 1988, Rockland High School has inducted 72 student-athlete alumni to the Hall of Fame, as well as four former coaches as honorary members.

Nominees for the Hall of Fame had outstanding athletic accomplishments during and after high school. They also contributed to their communities, and in some cases have overcome adversity and thrived either during high school or later on in their lives.

Anyone may nominate a Rockland High School graduate who is at lest 10 years removed from their time in high school for consideration for the Athletic Hall of Fame.  To do so, contact the RHS athletic director at graziano@rocklandschools.org.
