Esten Elementary School Students and Parents Share Breakfast With a Book

ROCKLAND — Esten Elementary School invited students and their parents to start their day a different way at its Breakfast With a Book events this week.

Parents were asked to come into school and spend the morning reading with their child, and were then encouraged to discuss the book while sharing doughnut holes and drinks.

Kindergarten, first and second grade parents joined their students yesterday, Oct. 25, while third and fourth grade parents visited the school today.

The events, which merged Esten’s existing “Munchkins with Mom” and “Donuts for Dads” programs, was planned by teachers Kaitlyn Juffre, Samantha Fortin and Carol Hocking. Rockland Title One Coordinator was on hand at the event to talk with parents about the importance of reading together with their children.

Approximately 155 parents came to Esten to participate in the events, which will become an annual tradition for the school.

“I am absolutely thrilled by how many families participated and were able to enjoy a book together,” Principal Marilyn Smith said. “I love that students and parents were able to spend time together at school, reinforcing to our kids that their families and teachers are working as a team to support them.”
