Whitman Fire Department Responds to Shed Fire

WHITMAN — Chief Timothy J. Grenno reports that the Whitman Fire Department responded to a fire involving two sheds early this morning.
At 12:37 a.m., Whitman Fire received a report that two sheds were burning behind 28 Pearl St. Upon arrival, crews found two sheds fully engulfed in flames, which were beginning to extend to the rear of a nearby home.
Firefighters immediately began an aggressive attack to keep the flames from spreading any further. The heavy fire was knocked down and crews used a foam line due to the presence of combustible liquids inside the sheds. Once the flames were fully extinguished, firefighters checked nearby homes and found that the house at 43 Erin St. had sustained heat damage.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The cost of the damage is estimated at $25,000.
Following a preliminary investigation, the Whitman Fire Department determined that the blaze was likely caused by fire pit ashes that had been discarded near a wooden fence two days earlier.
