Rockland Building Committee to Hold First Meeting on New State-of-the-Art Elementary School Tomorrow Night

ROCKLAND — Superintendent Dr. Alan Cron announces that the Rockland Public Schools’ Building Committee will meet tomorrow night to begin the process of designing a new state-of-the-art elementary school.

The kickoff meeting will be held at the Rockland Middle School’s media center, 100 Taunton Ave on Thursday, Sept. 28. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

In May, Rockland voters approved an $800,000 feasibility study to determine where the school will be located, its design and the total cost for the project.

A new elementary school is needed because the town’s current schools are more than 50 years old, they are difficult to maintain and do not meet the needs of 21st century learning. Construction of the new school would replace two of the district’s existing elementary schools.

Rockland is now in the beginning stages of the feasibility study. During the meeting tomorrow night, Building Committee members will start the process of finding an architect and project manager.

“We’re excited to get going on plans for our new state-of-the-art elementary school,” Superintendent Cron said. “Anyone who is interested in learning more or following along as we move through this process is encouraged to attend the meetings.”
