Bridgewater Fire And Police Departments Respond to Explosion

BRIDGEWATER — Fire Chief Tom Levy and Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte report that the Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to an explosion on Scotland Boulevard this morning.

At 11:32 a.m., police and fire units responded to numerous 911 calls reporting an explosion and a possible fire at Fibertec Inc., located in an industrial park at 35 Scotland Blvd. As units arrived, they observed smoke coming from the building as well as significant damage to the interior of the building.

First responders quickly determined that the building had been evacuated and that one male employee suffered injuries as a result of the explosion and was transported to a Boston hospital. A firefighter was treated at the scene.

“We are still actively investigating the cause of the explosion,” Chief Levy said. “I commend the firefighters and police officers who quickly worked to ensure that employees were safely evacuated and the scene was secured.”

There is no additional threat at this time, and the damage was contained to the Fibertec building. As a precaution, electric and gas utilities were shut off at the scene.
