Gloucester Fire Department To Host 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on 16th Anniversary of Terror Attacks
GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken report that the Gloucester Fire Department and the City of Gloucester will conduct a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to mark 16 years since the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks.
Gloucester Firefighters and public safety and military personnel will conduct an observance ceremony to honor all those lost and those lost in the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.
Immediately following the ceremony, a gathering for the community will be held in the Kyrouz Auditorium located in Gloucester City Hall. Refreshments will be provided with a display honoring 9/11 victims.
“We will stand together across first responding teams, elected officials, volunteers and all people within our community to pay respects for the thousands of lives who were tragically lost that infamous day,” said Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken. “We may feel angry, or upset, or sad, but Gloucester always comes together to support each other, and today’s ceremonies will remind us all that love must always guide us forward.”
All are invited and encouraged to attend to observe this solemn occasion.
“No matter how many years pass, it is important to keep those lost on 9/11 in our thoughts and continue to honor their memory,” Chief Smith said. “We are proud to be a part of this remembrance ceremony and are looking forward to honoring our fallen brothers.”
