Town of Maynard Receives Insurance Premium Credits Through MIIA Rewards Program

MAYNARD — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet is pleased to announce that the town received $14,748 back on its workers compensation and property casualty insurance costs for fiscal year 2017.

The town earned the credits – which will be applied toward premiums for the next fiscal year – through proactive and voluntary participation in loss prevention and risk management activities that are part of incentive programs offered by the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the town’s insurance provider.

“It’s about balancing financial responsibility and best practices to serve and educate our workers,” Town Administrator Sweet said. “It is vital to reduce workplace risks to keep all of our employees safe and it’s a huge bonus that we can save the town money at the same time.”

In order to keep the community safe and fiscally stronger, Maynard implemented risk management, safety measures and administrative procedures that minimize the risk of accidents and property damage. Additionally, local employees participated in training programs that promote effective management and safe operations. These no-cost programs are an added benefit from MIIA to help communities reduce their risks and insurance premiums.

“We commend Maynard for engaging in promoting safety in the workplace and mitigating risk. It’s not always an easy task and takes hard work and dedication by the town/city administration and its employees,” said Stanley Corcoran, Executive Vice President of MIIA. “Their commitment to safety has helped the municipality lower its own insurance costs and earn these Rewards funds. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with local leaders to ensure employees are well trained so that they can avoid unnecessary risks and losses, and help the town save valuable taxpayer dollars.”

In fiscal year 2017, MIIA awarded over $2.5 million of premium credits collectively to its membership, resulting in a 15-year total of nearly $28.5 million since the reward program’s inception.

MIIA is the non-profit insurance arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association. It is a member-based organization focused on providing excellent service and quality risk management solutions to the state’s municipalities and related public entities.
