Deputy Fire Chief Russ Moyer Retires from Georgetown Fire Department
GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell announces that Deputy Chief Russ Moyer has retired from the Georgetown Fire Department.
After serving Georgetown for 29 years, Deputy Chief Moyer retired on July 1. He was recognized for his years of service during a retirement ceremony on June 25 — his last day of work — at Georgetown’s Erie Fire Station, where he was formerly a member.
Moyer first began working at the department when he was 18 as a call firefighter. Over the years he climbed the ranks, serving as lieutenant and then deputy chief.
During his career at the Georgetown Fire Department, Moyer earned his Firefighter level 1 and 2 training, and became certified in CPR and as an Emergency Medical Technician. He’s also attended numerous trainings over the years, including the National Fire Academy’s off campus program on fire behavior and combustion, and completed courses at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.
As deputy chief, Moyer oversaw the Fire Prevention Division and most recently headed the Fire Operations Division.
“It’s always bittersweet to see a beloved member of the department retire, but we’re all happy that Deputy Chief Moyer is beginning his next adventure,” Chief Mitchell said. “I want to thank him for his years of dedicated service to the Georgetown community and to this department. We all wish him the best in his future endeavors!”
