Flu and Pneumonia Vaccine Still Available at Andover Health Department

ANDOVER — As the number of influenza cases continues to rise across the country, the Andover Health Division would like to remind residents that flu vaccinations are still available through the health department.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older.

Flu season typically peaks in January and February in the Northeast and lasts through March, but the Andover Health Division reminds the community that it is not too late to get vaccinated.

Additionally, as part of its adult immunization program, Andover Health is offering the Prevnar vaccination to protect residents against the very serious disease of bacterial or pneumococcal pneumonia. The CDC and Massachusetts Department of Public Health recommend that anyone 65 years and older receive one dose of Prevnar.

All vaccinations are administered by appointment only with the Public Health Nurse. Please call the Health Department at 978-623-8640 for more information or to make an appointment. The cost is covered by most health insurances. Any medical questions regarding either vaccine should be directed to your private physician.
