READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla is pleased to announce that the Reading Police Department has donated $2,525 to Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program dedicated to helping veterans and their families, through their No Shave November program.

Each of the 22 participating officers pledged $100 to Home Base, and, in turn, were granted a month-long waiver from the department policy restricting facial hair growth. In addition, four Reading residents gave to Home Base through the department, adding an extra $325 to their donation total.

Home Base is dedicated to helping post Sept. 11 service members, veterans and their families who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, have a traumatic brain injury, or other related conditions.

“I am incredibly pleased by the strong turnout for Home Base during this year’s No Shave November campaign,” Chief Segalla said. “I congratulate our officers for coming together at the start of the holiday season to donate to such a worthy cause.”
