Reading Police Officers to Participate in No-Shave November to Benefit Home Base Foundation

READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla is pleased to announce that the Reading Police Department will participate in “No-Shave November” to raise money for Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program dedicated to helping veterans and their families.

Each officer who wishes to participate must pledge at least $100 to Home Base, and, in turn, will be granted a month-long waiver from the department policy restricting facial hair growth.

Home Base is dedicated to helping post-9/11 service members, veterans, and their families who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, have a traumatic brain injury, or other related conditions.

In 2015, MBTA Transit Police started the “No-Shave November” first responder initiative and raised $15,000. This year, transit officers will not only be joined by Reading officers, but also by members of the Boston, Foxborough, Reading, Tewksbury and Watertown police departments.

“We are pleased to be a part of an initiative that’s growing throughout local law enforcement agencies,” Chief Segalla said. “Furthermore, we are proud to support an organization that aids veterans, because this hits close to home for so many in our Reading community.”
