ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan and the Arlington Police Department report that an elderly woman was rescued from a local pond this afternoon after she drove her vehicle into the water.

On Friday, Oct. 14, at approximately 1:02 p.m., a 68-year-old Medford woman driving a Ford Edge SUV was allegedly attempting to back into a parking spot on Linwood Circle when she drove over a curb and into Spy Pond.

Three good Samaritans jumped into the water and were able to rescue the operator of the vehicle. The victim was conscious and alert when she was pulled from the water. She was cold, but otherwise unhurt.

The vehicle is completely submerged in the water and, out of an abundance of caution, the Cambridge Fire Department Dive Team is responding to make sure the vehicle is unoccupied.

Cambridge Fire is assisting Arlington Police with the removal of the vehicle from the pond.
