East Bridgewater Police to Host Coffee with a Cop and Open House This Weekend

EAST BRIDGEWATER – Chief Scott Allen announces that the East Bridgewater Police Department is hosting multiple community events this weekend as part of National Community Policing Week.

On Friday, Oct. 7, East Bridgewater Police will host Coffee with a Cop at Dunkin’ Donuts, 204 North Bedford St., from 1-3 p.m. As a Coffee with a Cop sponsor, Dunkin’ Donuts will offer free cups of coffee to community members attending the event. In addition, coloring books and crayons will be available for children.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, police officers will join the East Bridgewater Fire Department at their annual open house. The event is held at the fire station, 268 Bedford St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The police and fire department will have apparatus on display, and residents will be able to try on fire gear, spray a fire hose and participate in other activities.

Firefighters will also conduct hands-on training on CPR and using an automated external defibrillator. Narcan training will also be available through the Brockton Hospital Mobile Simulation Lab. Pizza will be provided by Papa Gino’s, and fire safety materials will be accessible for both adults and children.

“Both these events will give residents a chance to connect with East Bridgewater’s public safety officers through fun, hands-on activities,” Chief Allen said. “We encourage everyone throughout the community to come meet our officers and learn a few extra public safety tips.”

About Coffee with a Cop:

Coffee With a Cop began in Hawthorne, Calif. in 2011 as a result of police officers brainstorming ways to better interact with their community. They developed a simple plan to break down the barriers that have been built between police officers and citizens — have a cup of coffee, discuss what’s on your mind, ask questions and make suggestions that could better the community.

Since its creation, Coffee With a Cop events have been held in more than 2,000 communities in 49 states. It is regarded as one of the most successful community oriented policing programs in the United States.
