Topsfield Fire Department to Host Child Passenger Safety Seat Giveaway
TOPSFIELD – Chief Ronald Giovannacci is pleased to announce that the Topsfield Fire Department will be hosting a child passenger safety seat giveaway this weekend.
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
WHERE:
Topsfield Fire Station, 27 High St.
WHAT:
Firefighters will be giving away a limited number of child safety seats to Massachusetts residents. The event is made possible through a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division. Recipients will fill out a survey and have their seat installed by a certified child safety seat technician.
“We are pleased to host such an important event,” Chief Giovannacci said. “A properly secured child safety seat is the best protection for children in the event of a crash. We hope residents in need will come and receive a child safety seat, or if they already have one, stop by to let our certified safety technicians check the installation to verify it has been done correctly.”
Anyone with questions should call the Topsfield Fire Department at 978-887-5148.
About Child Safety Regulations:
All children riding as a passenger in motor vehicles must be in a federally-approved child passenger restraint that is properly fastened and secured until they are 8 years old or over 57 inches tall. Children older than 8 years old or taller than 57 inches then must wear seat belts. According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, 75 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly
