*Media Advisory* Methuen Police Department Invite Community to Recovery Walk
METHUEN – Mayor Steve Zanni, Chief Joseph Solomon and the Methuen Police Department invite residents to take part in a Recovery Walk to raise awareness, reduce stigma and support those in the community who are recovering from alcohol and substance abuse as part of National Recovery Month.
WHO:
Methuen Police Department, Methuen Community Addiction Resources Engagement Service (C.A.R.E.S.) and The Loop
WHEN:
Sunday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Walk starts at 11 a.m.
WHERE:
The Loop, 90 Pleasant Valley St.
WHAT:
The Recovery Walk is a family-friendly event sponsored by the Methuen Police Department, C.A.R.E.S. and The Loop. In addition to the walk, there will be games, face painting, a selfie-station, and resources for recovery, health and wellness. Live music acts and vendors will be set up on the east side of The Loop between Chuck E. Cheese and The Loft.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. with speeches from Chief Solomon and the Director of The Loop, Elvin Soto. The Recovery Walk will start at 11 a.m. and circle the perimeter of The Loop. Participants will carry banners and signs that support those recovering from alcohol and substance abuse. After the walk, two local community members who are currently in recovery will speak to the audience about their experience.
“We are pleased to host an event to bring awareness to those seeking help with substance abuse,” Chief Solomon said. “We invite Methuen residents to join us for a day of fitness, fun and supporting their fellow community members.”
“I’d like to thank the Methuen Police Department and The Loop for their work in planning this event,” Mayor Zanni said. “We encourage all Methuen families to show their support for those fighting addiction, and have thoughtful conversations with children about staying away from drugs and alcohol.”
