Andover Fire Rescue Responds to Hotel for High Levels of Carbon Monoxide

ANDOVER — Chief Michael B. Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue is currently on scene at a local hotel that was evacuated due to high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) earlier today.

At 12:26 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the LaQuinta Inn and Suites, 131 River Road, on a report of the CO alarm going off. Upon arrival, officials began monitoring the building’s CO levels, which read over 100 parts per million in the hotel’s laundry room.

As a result, fire companies, in conjunction with Andover Police, evacuated 60 of the hotel’s 168 rooms.

Columbia Gas was notified, and officials developed a plan to set up a series of ventilation stands to eliminate CO from the building.

After CO levels throughout the hotel returned to a zero parts per million reading, evacuated guests were allowed to return to their rooms.

Columbia Gas has determined what appliances caused the high levels of CO to be emitted and have subsequently shut them down. The gas inspector is on scene to determine how to best replace the problematic units.
