Groton Police and Fire Departments Respond to Child Burned by Boiling Water

GROTON — Police Chief Donald Palma Jr. and Fire Chief Steele McCurdy report that the police and fire departments were dispatched to a residence for a report of a child that received burns from boiling water last weekend.

At approximately 12:04 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, the Groton Police and Fire Departments responded to a home on Hill Road and found that a female child had been severely burned by boiling water.

Upon arrival, EMTs quickly determined that the extent of the burns on the child’s body would require specialized treatment at a burn center. Boston MedFlight met EMTs at a nearby landing zone and the patient was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.

“Thanks to the quick actions of first responders in this incident, we were able to get this child the proper medical attention that she required,” Chief Palma said. “Please use caution when using the stove and always be aware of children who may be able to reach hot surfaces.”

“We always urge parents and guardians to use extreme caution when cooking to prevent accidents like these, especially when there are children in the house,” Chief McCurdy said. “Thankfully this child will be okay due to the swift action of emergency responders.”
