Bedford Police Department Investigating Early Morning Home Invasion and Shooting
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno reports that the Bedford Police Department is investigating an early morning home invasion and attempted robbery that resulted in three people sustaining serious injuries, including victim who was shot in the leg.
Bedford Police responded to an apartment above a commercial storefront at 40 North Road for a report of a gunshot. Upon arrival, officers located three men, in their 20s, who told police that they were attacked by three other men who broke into the apartment.
One of the victims was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was bleeding profusely. Bedford Police Sergeant Paul Saunders and Bedford Firefighter Chris Springer quickly rendered aid to the victim and were able to successfully stop the bleeding, which may have saved the victim’s life. The other two victims were beaten by the suspects. All three victims were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were reported to be serious but not life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the victims and at least one of the assailants had a prior relationship and were known to each other, possibly through a job. The suspects may have thought there were drugs inside the apartment and were trying to rob the men of the drugs. Police do not believe that this was a random act of violence.
“This is an extraordinarily unusual event for the town of Bedford. Bedford is a safe, family-oriented community,” Chief Bongiorno said. “We will aggressively pursue these suspects and bring them to justice.”
The Bedford Police Department is actively investigating this incident. If anyone saw anything or has any information, they are strongly urged to call Bedford Police at 781-275-1212.
