Gloucester Police Chief and Mayor Appoint Domestic Violence Officer
GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken are pleased to announce that the Gloucester Police Department today appointed the city’s first Domestic Violence Officer.
“This appointment recognizes our commitment to addressing and preventing domestic violence in the community,” Chief Campanello said. “We hope that with Officer Piscitello dedicated to cases of domestic violence and disturbances, residents will feel comfortable reaching out to police anytime they have an issue.”
Officer Piscitello will begin immediately and will follow all domestic violence cases, act as a liaison to victims and coalitions, and introduce new programs in conjunction with advocacy groups.
“We see this as just one of many positive steps we are taking in Gloucester to address a very serious issue,” Mayor Theken said. “Officer Piscitello is a key member in our fight to increase awareness surrounding domestic violence in the city.”
Representatives from the Healing Abuse Working for Change H.A.W.C., Gloucester Coalition for the Prevention of Domestic Abuse, and the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center were in attendance today.
